19-23 Caniço Gastronomic Week (Festa Gastronómica do Caniço)

21 Funchal City Day (Dia da Cidade do Funchal)
Dia da Cidade do Funchal commemorates the anniversary of the Royal Certificate signed by King D. Manuel I in 1508, which officially recognizes Funchal as a city. Historically an important seaport for trade, Funchal was the first European city built on the Atlantic. Official ceremonies include a mass at the Colégio Church and an assembly at the Town Hall, as well as many local events and festivities.
25 – 11 Madeira Wine Festival (Festa do Vinho Madeira)
The Madeira Wine Festival which takes place in August and September, is associated with the age-old precepts of viticultural work. The festival begins in the town of Câmara de Lobos with the grape harvest itself, the harvesters’ parade, the treading of the grapes and other related traditions enjoyed by both locals and visitors.
